Abstract: The collection consists of a variety of papers and documents from the Kansas territorial and Civil War eras, as well as later documents. Includes Franklin Loomis Crane, Sr.'s diary from the 1850s and 1860s, with an autobiographical sketch of his life up to that point; letters from various Crane family members during the 1850s and 1860s; Civil War letters to and from James Kay (stationed in Louisiana), brother of Anna S. Kay Crane, who married D. O. Crane and of Samuel H. Corry, a friend of James Kay who often wrote to Abram Kay[e]; F. L. Crane's business papers; two scrapbooks of letters, newspaper clippings, and other materials regarding the Kansas territorial era and the build-up and during the Civil War; account book for the Topeka Association; materials related to the Topeka Cemetery Association; and other related materials.
