Biographical sketch: Dale E. Watts was born August 9, 1940 in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Charley C. and Nellie E. (Wright) Watts. He graduated from Ottawa High School in 1958 and attended and graduated from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma in 1962. After graduating from Phillips, he received master's degrees from the historical museum administration at Cooperstown Graduate Programs, in gifted education from Emporia State University, and in U.S. History from the University of Kansas. From 1965 to 1968 Dale taught at the Harrisburg, PA, Area Community College. In 1969, he became curator of the Sacket's Habor Battlefield State Park in New York until 1973. After returning to Ottawa, Dale worked for the Kansas State Historical Society where he was a historic sites manager at the Kansas State Historical Society. After leaving that position, Dale taught in the gifted education program at Ottawa High School for four years. He was active int he Franklin County Historical Society. Dale died October 25, 2007 and is buried at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas.
