Abstract: The bulk of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway Company’s archives at the Kansas Historical Society (Topeka). Minutes of the Board of Directors begin in 1860; they document meetings and decisions made. Contracts are copies of legal agreements entered into by the Railway and its subsidiaries; they are arranged by the contract number. Annual reports are yearly summaries of Company activities, and dates range from as early as 1871 to 1996. Also included are deeds and survey records for railroad grant lands. Selected payroll vouchers & vol., 1870-1879, 1895-1960, are also included in the collection; these document payments to employees and are arranged by date, thereunder by railroad division, thereunder by job title, thereunder by location. There are also prior service records created to verify employment for each person who was working for the railroad on Aug. 29, 1935. Records of the Agricultural Development and Publicity Dept. include information on the Company's agricultural demonstration trains sent to assist farmers. The company also kept its own history ("museum") files documenting events that it deemed of importance to the Company. The collection also includes some records of Santa Fe hospitals. Microfilmed records include selected circulars, timetables, train robbery correspondence, Company history, advertising, court cases, treasurers' records, correspondence, lists of buildings & leased lines, payrolls, construction records, and misc. records including Fred Harvey Company material.
