Topeka - National Register workshop

Join us for the National Register workshop Monday, March 2, 2020. The workshop is for anyone working with (for the first time, or experienced) a National Register of Historic Places or Register of Historic Kansas Places nomination. Two different sessions will be offered—a morning beginner session and afternoon advanced session. We welcome members of the public and professionals.  The sessions are free and will be located in the museum classrooms, Kansas Historical Society, 6425 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka. An RSVP is requested.

8:30 a.m. Beginner session:

  • fundamentals of the National Register program
  • Surveying historic properties
  • How to write a nomination from scratch
  • Character-defining features

1 p.m. Advanced session

  • Discussion on nomination boundaries
  • Properties less than 50 years old
  • Thematic nominations
  • Periods of significance
