Food on the Westward Trails”

By Richard Foss, author

6:30 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2022

Richard Floss examines the challenges faced by pioneers who journeyed from the Midwest to California. Among the many struggles they faced included carrying enough food for a journey of several months, with all of their possessions, packed into a vehicle that also had to serve as a shelter. Their diets, while monotonous, gave them the calories to survive. Along the way they were able to include a few minor luxuries that could bring a hint of home to a desolate prairie camp. Mr. Floss's presentation will leave you marveling at the fortitude of the people who settled the West.
