Arthur Ferguson
Arthur Medworth Ferguson was born December 11, 1877, in Coffey County, Kansas. Ferguson enlisted in the army to fight in the Spanish-American War in 1898. On September 28, 1899, Ferguson charged a body of the enemy alone and captured a captain. He was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor on February 7, 1902. He was later awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his heroic actions by voluntarily scouting out an enemy camp. Ferguson was married to Laura Magill Kenzie who died in 1918, and later remarried Sarah Maddocks. After the war Ferguson continued on to fight in the Mexican Border Campaign and World War I. Ferguson died February 20, 1923, at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, due to surgery complications. He is buried in Arlington Cemetery in Virginia along with both his wives. The national guard in Burlington honored Ferguson with a memorial.
