Lisa Stehno-Bittel
Stehno-Bittel began her academic career at the University of Kansas in Lawrence where she earned a bachelor's degree in physical therapy. She went on to complete a doctorate in physiology at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri, and post-doctoral work in pharmacology at the Mayo School of Medicine in Minnesota.
At the University of Kansas Medical Center she became a faculty member in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science. She served as department chair from 2004 to 2015.
In 2012 she licensed laboratory patents and co-founded Likardia, LLC, a biotech research laboratory. Devoted to curing diabetes through islet transplants, the company provides services to science entrepreneurs, bio consortia, and contract research organizations, and holds patents on regenerative medicines that manage diabetes in dogs and cats. She has received numerous awards for the innovation and cutting-edge services. She is internationally published in more than 60 major magazines, scientific journals, and books.
