Carmen Lopez

She is the daughter of Concepcion and Rafael Rocha Lopez, who immigrated to the United States from Mexico. Carmen's father served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War, and he later worked as a civil service barber at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas. Beginning in 1963, her parents owned and operated Connie's Mexico Cafe in Wichita, Kansas.

These two black and white photographs show a teepee in Satana, Kansas. The structure is located in the city park along U.S. Highway 56. The first image shows three boys of possible Mexican-Kiowa descent in front of the teepee. In the first year of its opening, 3,000 visitors came to the teepee.
