Jayhawker Tractor Girls, Salina, Kansas

This photograph shows members of the Jayhawker Tractor Girls with four covered wagons pulled by a tractor. One of the wagons reads, "Woman's National Agricultural Legion," and another, "Jayhawker Tractor Girls." The Woman's National Agricultural Legion, originally the Jayhawker Tractor Girls, was organized at the start of World War I in 1918. The group encouraged women to join the farm labor force while men were away fighting in Europe.
