F. E. "Gene" Murphy ranch house east of Santa Fe, Kansas

Steele, F. M. (Francis Marion), 1866-1936

Francis Eugene (Gene) Murphy is shown on the porch of his ranch house, located in Haskell County east of Santa Fe, Kansas. Also visible at right are a storm cellar (or "'fraid hole") and a windmill. At one time, Murphy owned 100 quarter-sections of Haskell County land. The house, built by Murphy in 1908, was later the home of Harold Walters.

Samuel Crumbine poster

Public poster with Dr. Samuel J. Crumbine banning the public drinking cup, common roller towel, and encouraging the swatting of flies. Dr. Samuel J. Crumbine of Dodge City was one of the nation's leaders in the field of public health. He became secretary of the Kansas State Board of Health in 1904 and served for approximately 20 years. His public health campaigns were directed at practices and conditions that led to the spread of communicable diseases.

L. W. Halbe Collection

Halbe, L. W. (Leslie Winfield), 1893-1981

The L. W. (Leslie Winfield) Halbe photo collection consists of 1500 glass plate negatives produced by Halbe during his teenage years. Halbe lived in Dorrance, Russell County, Kansas, and began taking photographs of the region with an inexpensive Sears and Roebuck camera when he was fifteen years old.
