Tucker, E. S.
Portrait of Eli Thayer, 1819-1899, who in 1853-54 was a representative in the Massachusetts legislature, and while there, originated and organized the New England Emigrant Aid Company. He worked to combine the northern states in support of his plan to send antislavery settlers into Kansas. Lawrence, Topeka, Manhattan, and Ossawatomie, Kansas, were settled under the auspices of his company.

Bodwell, Lewis, 1827-1894
This collection consists of letters of recommendation and correspondence to and from Lewis Bodwell, the first resident pastor of the First Congregational Church in Topeka. The collection also includes Bodwell's diary and list of marriage ceremonies performed in Topeka from 1863-1873. Correspondence is arranged chronologically. The last item in the page selection list is labeled notebook and it is the diary covering the years 1863-1873. Bodwell, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Anson G. Bodwell, was born in Connecticut and moved to Topeka during the territorial era. He acted as the state superintendent of missions for the American Home Missionary Society. Eventually he moved to Clifton Springs, New York.

This collection consists of a single volume of handwritten notes taken by Reverend Myron Oscar Harrington. The notes were taken while Harrington was a student attending seminary school, in all likelihood Andover Seminary in Massachusetts. They are from lectures given by Professor Edwards Amasa Park. Professor Park was a noted nineteenth century American Congregational theologian.

This broadside lists the various events that were planed for the 25th anniversary celebration of the opening of Kansas Territory to settlement. The events were held at Bismark Grove near Lawrence, Douglas County, Kansas. Church services were held on Sunday, September 14. Other activities included a Quarter-Centennial Salute by 25 guns at sunrise on Monday, Sept. 15, various musical entertainment; remarks by numerous early antislavery settlers in Kansas and current U.S. Senators and the Governor of Kansas J.P. St. John; an address by Eli Thayer of Worcester, Massachusetts, who was a supporter of the New England Emigrant Aid Company; a "Grand Barbecue Dinner" and a "Grand Farewell Sociable" followed by fireworks. This poster also includes advertisments from numerous Lawrence businesses.
