L. W. Halbe Collection

Halbe, L. W. (Leslie Winfield), 1893-1981

The L. W. (Leslie Winfield) Halbe photo collection consists of 1500 glass plate negatives produced by Halbe during his teenage years. Halbe lived in Dorrance, Russell County, Kansas, and began taking photographs of the region with an inexpensive Sears and Roebuck camera when he was fifteen years old.

Jonathan McMillan Davis

These are aset of photographs of Jonathan McMillan Davis, 1871-1943, a farmer and politician from Bronson, Kansas. Davis began his political career in 1900 when he was elected as a Democrat to the Kansas House of Representatives. Davis was reelected to the House of Representatives in 1908 and 1910. In 1912 Davis was elected to the Kansas Senate where he served from 1913-1915. In the November general election of 1922 he was elected the twenty-second governor of Kansas defeating Republican challenger William Yoast Morgan. Davis was a one term governor serving from January 08, 1923 to January 12, 1925. During his administration he secured funding for veterans' pensions, recognized women's suffrage and authorized improvements in roads.
