Wayne Hightower

This black and white photograph shows Wayne Hightower #55 rebounding during the KU vs. K-State basketball game in Lawrence, Kansas. Hightower was a center for the University of Kansas men's basketball team from ,1960-1961, before being drafted in 1962 into the NBA. He played for a number of professional basketball teams including the San Francisco Warriors, Detroit Pistons and Denver Rockets before retiring in 1972. On April 18, 2002, Wayne Hightower passed away at the age of sixty-two in his hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Matilda and Junius Groves

This is a portrait of Matilda and Junius Groves, who were potato farmers near Edwardsville in Wyandotte County, Kansas. They farmed over 1,000 acres, and he was known as the "Potato King." The Groves shipped their produce all over the United States by railroad. Because of the quantity shipped, the Union Pacific placed a spur on the Groves' farm to load its produce. Junius Groves served as trustee for Western University in Quindaro, Kansas.

This photograph shows a pharmacy class at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. Dean Lucius E. Sayre, who founded and led the School of Pharmacy from 1885 to 1925, is seated fourth from the right. There are fourteen students visible in the class picture, including two women. Cases filled with bottles of chemicals and pharmacy supplies are visible in the background.
