L. W. Halbe Collection

Halbe, L. W. (Leslie Winfield), 1893-1981

The L. W. (Leslie Winfield) Halbe photo collection consists of 1500 glass plate negatives produced by Halbe during his teenage years. Halbe lived in Dorrance, Russell County, Kansas, and began taking photographs of the region with an inexpensive Sears and Roebuck camera when he was fifteen years old.

These two sepia colored photographs show the exterior view of C.C. Nicholson's wholesale and retail coal and feed store at 1009 North Kansas Avenue in Topeka, Kansas. The building in the second image replace the building in the first image. The second image also has a sign for C. F. Bridge, real estate and rental office. Each image also has a horse drawn wagon.
