William Henry Avery and Sharon Avery

A photograph of William Henry Avery and Sharon Avery his daughter-in-law. William Avery served in the Kansas House of Representatives from 1950 to 1955. In 1954, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives and served until 1964. During his 10 years in Congress, he served on numerous committees. In 1964, Avery was elected the 37th governor of Kansas. He served one term as governor, losing a re-election bid to Robert Docking in 1966. After an unsuccessful bid for the United States Senate, Avery returned to private life.


Luke Douglas Nihart

A photograph of Kansas Wildlife and Parks' Officer Luke Douglas Nihart, who was killed in an ATV accident while working the Country Stampede music festival at Tuttle Creek State Park. He was killed when his ATV flipped in the parking area of a Department of Wildlife and Parks' office. Officer Nihart served with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks for 11 years.


Lynn Jenkins

Here are two photographs of Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins, CPA. She grew up on a diary farm near Holton and graduated from Kansas State University and Weber State College in Ogden, Utah, where she studied accounting and economics. Following graduation, she became a Certified Public Accountant and practiced public accounting in the private sector before entering public service in 1998. After serving four years in the Kansas Legislature, Congresswoman Jenkins was elected the 37th State Treasurer of Kansas in 2002 and served until 2009. In 2008, Congresswoman Jenkins was elected to Congress, representing the Second District of Kansas and is serving her third term. She is Vice Chair of the House Republican Conference during the 113th Congressional session. Congresswoman Jenkins sits on the House Committee on Ways and Means.


Sherman A. Parks, Jr.

This series of photographs are representations of Sherman A. Parks Jr. as he grows up from adolescence to a young adult. Some of the images of Sherman include him playing in the Sunflower Games, shaking hands with George Brett, attending significant events such as the 1984 Kansas Black legislative Conference, graduation from Washburn University and family photos. Also included is candidate information when Sherman ran for State Representative 59th District, and a newspaper clipping of Sherman being elected executive director of the Kansas Chiropractic Association.
