This photograph shows nearly two dozen young boys competing in a pie eating contest, on a table constructed of boards and saw horses, at the Marysville Country Club, just north of Marysville, Kansas. The competition was part of a back-to-school party at the end of summer. Originally built as a private residence in 1872 by flour mill owner, Perry Hutchinson, the house was purchased and converted for use by the Marysville Country Club in the 1920s.

Also visible in the background are buildings and parked cars. All of the rural school districts had a float or entry in a parade at the Marshall County Fair every year.
