Commercial street, Oswego, Kansas

This black and white photograph shows the west side of Commercial Street in Oswego, Kansas. The store fronts with their wooden frames were destroyed by a fire in 1884 and later replaced by masonry buildings. In the foreground Jabez Zink and his team of horse are visible. He settled in 1865 on Labette Creek and eventually became the mayor of Oswego. There is also a stage coach that operated from Oswego to Independence and Coffeyville.

Topeka centennial parade

This film footage of the Topeka centennial parade includes intermittent commentary and shows horses and wagons, marching bands (from Chanute and Ottumwa), and floats of various clubs and organizations including the Holton Saddle Club; the Shawnee Saddle Club; a square dancing club; the Army Reserve; the Colony Teachers Association; the Union Pacific railroad; the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe railroad; the Topeka Fire Department; and the Jayhawk Council. The parade was filmed on Kansas Avenue in Topeka, Kansas, in front of the Jenkins Music Company.

This volume contains the records of current accounts of Seneca Indian agents, including Henry C. Brish, Augustin Kennerly and Lieutenant J. Van Horne. They participated in the removal of Seneca Indians from Sandusky County, Ohio to St. Louis and further west and similar emigration of Delaware Indians from Muncie, Indiana to the west. The records show cash amounts received for services and expenditures such as the purchase of wagons and horses. Partial funding for the digitization of these records was provided by the National Park Service.

Kerosene tank wagon, Arkansas City, Kansas

Baumer, Beverly

This kerosene wagon was once used by the Grimes family of Arkansas City for home delivery of kerosene to customers. When the photograph was taken, the tank was 62 years old and owned by Harry Grimes of Arkansas City. His grandfather and father both sold kerosene from it, driving up and down city streets and country roads.
