Nellie Cline

Nellie Cline, a native of Larned, Pawnee County, served in the Kansas House of Representatives from 1921 to 1924. She is also credited with being the first female lawyer to argue a case before the United States Supreme Court.

Carrie Alma Hackett Patterson Hall

Portrait of Kansas dressmaker and quilter Carrie Alma Hackett Patterson Hall, 1866-1955, co-author with Rose Good Kretsinger of 1935's "The Romance of the Patchwork Quilt in America." Working from 1920 to 1935, Hall identified and made cloth blocks of over 850 unique quilt block patterns in order to preserve a record of historical quilt patterns. Hall's patterns and cloth blocks are in the Carrie Hall collection at the Helen Foresman Spencer Museum of Art in Lawrence, Kansas, and are featured in Bettina Havig's 1999 book "Carrie Hall Blocks: Over 800 Historical Patterns from the Collection of the Spencer Museum of Art, University of Kansas."

Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company's Fred Harvey House, Hutchinson, Kansas

This photograph shows a group of Harvey Girls gathered in the dining room of the Harvey House at the Bisonte Hotel in Hutchinson, Kansas. The facility designed by architect J.G. Holland opened in November of 1897. For a number of years the hotel provided service until the late 1940s when it closed its doors due to the decline in rail services. The building was razed between 1964 and 1965.

This photograph shows a group of Harvey House girls standing in front of the Fred Harvey restaurant in Syracuse, Kansas. The women, wearing modest black dresses with long white aprons, served meals to travelers at the Fred Harvey hotels and restaurants along the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway line.

Golden Charles Dresher photograph collection

Dresher, G. C.

This collection consists of 326 photographs taken by G. C. (Golden Charles) Dresher of Canton, McPherson County, Kansas. The photos mostly concern the Dresher family, their friends and the surrounding area. Photographs of McPherson College students and the flooding of Cow Creek are also included. Dorothy May (Dresher) Richards, the daughter of G. C. Dresher, donated the original glass plate negatives to the Kansas Historical Society in 1999.
