Samuel Clarke Pomeroy

A portrait of Samuel Clarke Pomeroy, businessman and politician. In 1859, he attended the Convention at Osawatomie and the Republican Convention at Lawrence. Pomeroy was elected president of the Kansas Relief Committee in November, 1860. After statehood, he served as United States Senator from April 4, 1861 to March 3, 1873.

Governor Robert Blackwell Docking

This black and white photograph shows Kansas Governor Robert Blackwell Docking celebrating his re-election as governor. Docking, a World War II veteran and banker from Arkansas City, Kansas, was elected the thirty-eighth governor of Kansas in 1966. He successfully won re-election in 1968, 1970, and 1972. He served more terms than any Kansas Governor, but a constitutional amendment approved during Docking's tenure allowed a governor to serve only two four year terms.

Dr. John R. Brinkley used a Chevrolet truck, identified as "Ammunition Train No.1 Heavy Artillery" during his unsuccessful 1932 campaign for Kansas Governor. The truck was equipped with microphones, "talking picture" and sound equipment, and a good-sized platform for campaign speaking.

Rolla Anderson Clymer

Rolla Anderson Clymer, editor of the El Dorado Times for 59 years, wrote numerous articles and poems about the Flint Hills region. His best known poem "Majesty of the Hills" earned him the designation as Poet Laureate of the Flint Hills. He took an active role in Republican party politics and served on Alf Landon's presidential campaign in 1936.
