Physical Description: a) 1st Kansas Colored Infantry. Blue silk regimental banner with gold silk fringe along top and bottom edges. American eagle with federal shield; arrows and olive branch in talons. Painted on silk, as well as battle honors and unit designation. Two rows of stars above eagle, 18 on top, 16 on bottom. Sleeve for staff. Framed for exhibit during conservation treatment. b) Light colored wood flagstaff. Tip of staff is carved in to fit finial. c) Finial is cylinder shaped. Closed on one end and small ridge near open end. d) Blue and white braided cord with large ball and tassel at both ends. e) Three small brass tacks.

History of Object: Regiment organized in Aug. 1862. Re-designated 79th Colored Infantry in 1864.
