Physical Description: Red, white, and blue quilt in Union Square pattern. Pieced blocks set on point, and separated by wide bands of sashing creating a zigzag effect. Blocks feature dark red center squares, blue printed fabrics in a shade known as cadet blue, and a background of white fabrics with subtle pink and red prints. Sashing is shirting fabric in a tiny black print on white ground. Wide border of shirting fabric, set off by narrow pieced band of the block fabrics in sawtooth design. Quilted in parallel rows, except for borders which are quilted on the diagonal. White/tan checked cotton binding. White cotton backing. Cotton batting. Hand-pieced and quilted, with machine-stitched binding.

History of Object: According to notes in the accession file, this quilt was pieced by the donor?s great-grandmother, Eliza Hobart Austin, and given to the donor?s parents (Benjamin O. and Marietta Weaver) on their wedding day, June 18, 1913. Ben and Marietta lived on the Eagle Canyon Ranch in Kiowa County, nine miles south of Mullinville.
