Accession Number: 2010.45.1

Physical Description: Drawing of the character Elphaba (a.k.a., The Wicked Witch of the West) from the novel entitled "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" by Gregory Maguire. The drawing is rendered in pen and crayon on plain white paper. The witch is drawn along the right edge of the paper. She is bent at the waist with her arms extended, and wears a blue-gray dress and hat and black boots. Her face and hands are green. Two lines of lettering, one black and the other green, to the left of the drawing. One line of lettering below the witch's right foot. Two lines below her left foot. Reverse is blank.

History of Object: Drawing was created by the donor, who is also the author of the book "Wicked." A member of the Library/Archives staff contacted Maguire to see if he would donate materials from the book or musical to the Kansas Historical Society. Maguire believed he had nothing interesting to donate, so he created this drawing of Elphaba, the main character of his novel, specifically for the society.
