Physical Description: Cream colored plate in the shape of Kansas, impressed with a scene of the horizon and an orange/brown windmill in the lower right hand corner. Rectangular foot. Impressed on underside with information.
History of Object: Given with fork (1976.91.1). Kansas Secretary of State (1966-1978) Elwill M. Shanahan commissioned this plate during the nation?s bicentennial (1976). Shanahan commissioned students at the University of Kansas to make and present the dish to the members of the National Association of Secretaries of State at their annual conference in Dover, Delaware, from July 18-21, 1976; Shanahan was president of the organization at the time. This plate was made by Damian Rowna and Shane Stark.
