Accession Number: 1970.175.625

Physical Description: Quilt made of a variety of multi-colored cotton fabrics in Double Wedding Ring pattern. Design features small patches of fabric stitched into large interlocking rings on an off-white background. Where the rings intersect, there are small 4-patch blocks in yellow and pink. Ring fabrics are printed and vary widely in color and design, mostly bright. Quilt has scalloped edges and rounded corners trimmed with pink cotton binding. White cotton batting visible at worn edges. Off-white cotton backing. Machine-stitched. Hand-quilted in simple geometric and floral motifs on white ground, outline stitching on printed and colored fabrics.

History of Object: According to notes in accession file, all the quilts in this accession belonged to Ollie Mae Dean; her daughter (Linda Dean) asked that they be given in her mother?s name. Ollie Mae?s relationship to the donor is unknown. It is possible that she was a cousin of the donor?s mother, Ambrosia Deane Thomas, although the spelling of Deane is slightly different.
