Physical Description: Large horseshoe of hand-wrought iron. U-shaped shoe with calkins (prongs) at the end of both heels, and at the toe. A shallow fullering groove runs along outer edge on both branches, extending from near the heel tips to the toe calkin. Nailholes are visible in the fullering groove.

History of Object: According to accessions ledger, this shoe was found on the Santa Fe Trail west of Council Grove, Kan.

Date: Between 1800 and 1870
