Red Rocks Tours - Home of William Allen White

Visitors to Red Rocks, home of William Allen White, in Emporia can choose from both guided and self-guided tours.

Scholarships - The William Allen White Community Partnership, Inc., is offering 10 scholarships of $200 to help area schools fund field trips to Red Rocks. The scholarship money can be used for admission and transportation for one of the three guided theme tours offered at Red Rocks.

 

Tours

Group discounts are available for groups of 10 or more with 2 weeks advance notice.  Group tours can be scheduled ahead during the winter season. One adult is admitted free for every 10 students, and additional adults pay the student rate.  To register for a tour contact the site administrator. See hours admission fees. Guided Tours - Guided tours provide visual and hands-on learning about Kansas history.

  • Hats Off to William Allen White (fourth grade) Students learn how the Pawnee used the natural environment to live in the Central Plains.

  • William Allen White and the Reform Era (seventh and eighth grades) Students learn about four Kansas reformers as they tour White's home and conclude their tour with a "Meet the Press" interview session.

  • Taking a Stand - Writings of William Allen White (high school) Students first explore White as a Kansas reformer as they tour his home before taking part in a Socratic Seminar on one of thee issues - the Populist Party, the Court of Industrial Relations, or the influence of the Ku Klux Klan.

  • General Tour (all ages) Contact the site administrator to arrange a guided tour to fit your group's needs.

Self-guided Tours - For those who prefer to lead their own group, self-guided tours are available.
