Monarch Tagging

Monarch butterfly populations have declined by close to 90% in the last few decades. These beautiful insects migrate through Kansas during the last two weeks of September and we are waiting for them!

The Kansas Museum of History and Topeka Zoo have teamed up for the monarch butterfly migration! Education classes and monarch tagging opportunities are offered for classrooms during the day. Evening classes and monarch tagging opportunities are open to the public and are fun for the whole family.

Student Groups

Monarch tagging classes may be booked for student groups (K-12) for two-hour sessions on weekdays beginning September 15 through September 29, 2021 at the Kansas Museum of History. Cost is $5 per student. Reservations are required. Please call Rachael Rost at 785-368-9137 or email education@topekazoo.org

Public Monarch Tagging

Evening classes are also offered free of charge to the public on September 15, 18, 21, 23, and September 28, 2021, from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Kansas Museum of History.
