Powers Fellowship Fund

The Ramon Powers Endowment was created in 2001 to fund a visiting research fellowship at the Kansas Historical Society. Dr. Ramon Powers served as executive director of the Historical Society from 1988 until 2002. He received two academic degrees from Fort Hays State University in Hays and taught at the University of Missouri – Kansas City while receiving his doctorate from the University of Kansas in Lawrence. After graduation he taught at Haskell Indian Junior College before joining the Legislative Research Department for the Kansas Legislature. Since his retirement, Dr. Powers has continued his research and writing, co-authoring a book with James Leiker, The Northern Cheyenne Exodus in History and Memory in 2011, and authoring articles in Kansas History: A Journal of the Central Plains.
