Virtual Lucy Goes to Oregon

Guided virtual tour — Kansas Museum of History, Topeka

Grades — Kindergarten to second

Overview — Young students are introduced to life on the Oregon Trail through this fun virtual tour. It begins with an illustrated story of a little girl, Lucy, who travels to Oregon with her family. Then students view and learn about items that were important for families to pack in their wagons for their long journey. If families packed too much or too little, it caused hardships. Students will share their thoughts about what was important to pack in the wagon or leave behind.

  • Benchmark 1.1: The student will recognize and evaluate significant choices and consequences that have impacted our lives and futures.

ELA Reading Informational Standards (2017)

SL.1.3: The student will ask and answer questions about what a speaker says in order to gather additional information or clarify something that is not understood.
